My book Learning FreeNAS was published last week but it takes a while for the information to filter into Amazon…
I just checked the Amazon page and all the information including the photo of the book cover has appeared!
Packt Publishing, the publishers of my FreeNAS book have released an excerpt from the book as an article on Local User Management in FreeNAS.
In general, once the FreeNAS server is configured and running, it doesn't really need much attention, it should just work. However, there are lots of different features which can be configured. This article shows how user management is done in FreeNAS.
Tom Mainelli of PC World has written a review of FreeNAS. It has been syndicated quite widely and even appears on the Washington post web site.
The URLS that I have found so far are:
PC World
Washington Post
CIO
My book Learning FreeNAS has been published today.
The book is about using FreeNAS and will teach you how to turn a PC into a Network Attached Storage server with the FreeNAS software.
You can get a free chapter to download and read in PDF format. Chapter 2 Preparing to Add FreeNAS to Your Network
The PDF contains:
My Biography
A preview chapter from the book
A synopsis of the books content
Information on where to buy the book
I have found a good step by step guide to installing FreeNAS including putting together the hardware over at Rick Hamell's blog.
You can find it here.
“harryd” has a very informative post on his blog about ZFS snapshots and FreeNAS 0.7.
Currently it is not possible to use the ZFS snapshot functionality via the Web-GUI. But you can use a script and cron to schedule snapshots.

FreeNAS has been awarded with an InfoWorld' BOSSIE award for being the best free, open source storage server.
InfoWorld's annual Bossies awards recognize top free and open source software, and the second annual list of winners is out now. Bossies are awarded by InfoWorld's editorial and test center staff.
A BIG well done to the FreeNAS team.
I have created a new FreeNAS tutorial video which has been uploaded to YouTube. This second video is a sneak preview of ZFS which is coming in FreeNAS 0.7.
You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16v4jNYH0GI
The video will also be uploaded to the videos section of this website later today.
